It is for everyone who is looking to eat healthily but fails due to their cravings for something delicious. While it is not rocket science, the human psyche associates healthy food with distasteful and difficult to cook eatables. Also, this hype fails us, as we assume eating nutritious food is expensive in monetary as well as emotional terms.

I’ve been into many seminars and social happenings and have met thousands of people, yet, a question that I am asked frequently is, ‘Hey Kirti, why do I always fail on my mission of eating healthy, due to my craving for something delicious!?’

However, this issue got solved, if we start enjoying fruits, vegetables, and whole-grain like wholewheat, millets, unpolished rice. Let’s explore a bit more about millets in this article.

Now, to let you know what millets are – Millets are rich in fiber and easy to cook traditional grains, discovered around 7000 years ago. Millets formed the staple diet of our prehistoric times and were cultivated due to its low resource requirement for its plantation.

The next question that arises is – why should we consume millets?

  • I recommend millets as they are highly nutritious and turn out to be a great source of calcium, protein, and dietary fibers. Millets possess vitamins (Vit Bs), minerals like iron, and phosphorus, zinc, calcium which, make for a perfect ingredient for a balanced diet. All Vit Bs are found in good quantity in millets.
  • Diabetic patients should consume millets due to its slow glucose releasing the property.
  • Athletes and fitness concerned people also consume it to suffice protein in their diets as some variety of millets (Barnyard, Kodo, etc.) contain an adequate amount of protein to meet their daily requirements.
  • They are gluten-free, so people who have gluten sensitivity, Celiac Disease, non-celiac gluten sensitivity, or wheat allergy can include millets in their diet.
